Correlation lower bounds from correlation upper bounds

We show that for any coprime $m,r$ there is a circuit of the form $\text{MOD}_m\circ \text{AND}_{d(n)}$ whose correlation with $\text{MOD}_r$ is at least $2^{-O\left( \frac{n}{d(n)} \right) }$. This is the first correlation lower bound for arbitrary $m,r$, whereas previously lower bounds were known for prime $m$. Our motivation is the ... more >>>

Extractors for Affine Sources with Polylogarithmic Entropy

We give the first explicit construction of deterministic extractors for affine sources over $F_2$, with entropy $k \geq \log^C n$ for some large enough constant $C$, where $n$ is the length of the source. Previously the best known results are by Bourgain \cite{Bourgain07}, Yehudayoff \cite{Yehudayoff10} and Li \cite{Li11a}, which require ... more >>>

Understanding PPA-Completeness

Revisions: 1

The search complexity classes {\bf PPA} and {\bf PPAD} were proposed by Papadimitriou twenty years ago for characterizing the computational difficulties of many interesting natural search problems. While many members in the complete class of {\bf PPAD}, {\bf PPAD}-completeness, are established in the past twenty years, the understanding of the ... more >>>
